WHOIS privacy

What WHOIS privacy protects

Every domain has a public record anyone can look up through WHOIS or RDAP. With privacy turned on, your personal details in that record are replaced with the details of a privacy service. Mail sent to the privacy address is still forwarded to you.

Some country-code TLDs (.eu, .nl, .de, .is) handle privacy at the registry level. The registry decides what is published, and for individuals it usually hides personal contact data already. Our privacy add-on does not apply to these TLDs.

Transfers

Transfer your domain

Move an existing domain to us in three steps. WHOIS privacy is switched on as soon as the transfer completes.

Transfer a domain
  1. Step 1: Unlock the domain

At your current registrar, turn off the transfer lock (sometimes called registrar lock). Also check that WHOIS privacy there does not block the transfer email.

  2. Step 2: Get the EPP or auth code

Request the authorization code from your current registrar. It is a one-time password that proves you own the domain.

  3. Step 3: Start the transfer

Enter the domain and auth code at checkout and pay. Most transfers add one year to your registration and keep your current expiry date.
